Tahu campur or mixed tofu is a well known delicacy for the eastern Javanese. There are some street vendors in Jakarta who sell these foods, my family's previous favorite is the one at Sultan Iskandar Muda (after Pd Indah), but a few weeks a go mom's cousin told us her fav tahu campur vendor in front of Fatmawati hospital, in the parking lot of the post office so I guess it only opens at night. We went and tried, it was good.... even looking at this pic made my mouth watered again hehehe.... for sure we will come back again and this will be our new fav place for tahu campur.
Tahu campur is a mix of tofu, beef tendon, lettuce, bean's sprout, fried mashed sweet potato, warm beef broth, black prawn paste (petis) and crackers.
The beef tendon is very tender, you could bite it without a fight, they gave a lot of lettuce and bean's sprout so there would be less guilt of eating coz you could think of it as healthy food hehehe... the broth itself is really smooth and they put just the right amount of the black prawn paste, the cracker itself will add to the fun of eating :) and to make it a little bit daring add a teaspoon of sambal.
