Manado Trip September '07 - Day 1...

Starting Point - Jakarta
Gosh.... the airplane time is way tooooo early for me, even for my office daily waking up time, we have to leave our house at 03.30 AM. I had so little time to finish up packing, only have around an hour and a half to sleep. A bit excited and nervous for this trip with my family to Manado, haven't been there for 17 years. Why I'm nervous? it's 'coz every time I went home from a Manado trip I'm always sick, probably I'll just never get accustomed with the really hot & spicy local food there, but because it's just too delicious I just can't say no :)
For you who haven't known me I'm half Manadonese and half Javanese.
The main purpose of this trip is a celebration for my grandma's 100th year birth date remembrance, I can't call it birthday 'coz my grandma had passed away in '99.

Jakarta - Manado
I can't help it, need to snooze a bit in the plane. But when I woke up, found a view I can capture with my camera, it's just the plane's wing on the clouds but I just luv the pic till now.
When we were above Manado area, the view from my window is great too, at first there's the sea and some islands, but the most different sight from what Jakarta air view is that there are lots of these beautiful green hills, took a view pics too.

Manado
Arrived at last, time to adjust the watch it's GMT+8 as Jakarta is GMT+7.
My cousin pick us up at the airport, it's really nice & sweet of him 'coz he's the one who really took care of us while we were there, who drove us everywhere and took us to places that we won't know if we weren't locals there.
First stop my dad said it's a must to try the yellow rice (nasi kuning) for brunch, I think it's quite ok, not too spicy if you don't take the "rica" or "sambal", it's almost the same as the javanese nasi kuning but it's more yellowy and it's accompanied with fish chunks instead of beef or chicken.
After that we stopped at the golf course for my dad, as for my mom and me we explore the city with my cousin and his son and bought ration of bottled mineral water for our stay there. At around 4PM we finally got to the hotel "Santika-Tongkaina", it's quite far from the city, my dad chose it because it's the closest point from Manado to Bunaken island.
The first thing that caught my eyes from the lobby was the remarkable view of the hotel's garden, dock and right to the sea, it's just simply beautiful. The room is just ok (I still love my cozy bedroom much more than this), quite clean and everything just standard (but I just recommend to bring your own towels, as I consider it a bit yucky). But the dock view... really just made me want to jump out of my room to go down there and take a look at it myself. I'm not even tempted to rest a bit like my dad, I just had to jump and go there.
Even though there is no sand on the beach as it is covered with the mangrove, the view is not disappointing at all, I can't help to take pictures of the view from the doc from left to the right side. The water is really clear, unlike the ones we got in Jakarta (Ancol), we could see small fishes swimming. On the dock we are being spoiled with the view of the sea, Bunaken island, Siladeng island and mount Manado Tua.
Me, my mom, my cousin and his son stayed at the dock until sunset, as I'm more of a sunset lover than sunrise, I just adore the view and again took some pictures there too. There are around 4 or 5 groups coming in and out of the little port from and for scuba diving, I really envy them for being able to enjoy the sea not only from the above but under too. Sometimes the diving tour leader came and sat with us and talk about their dive. The next time I visit Manado I will have to be able to dive :)
After the sun is set we went back to the room and go to the city for dinner. My mom kept on saying at her last visit there (when my grandma died) she had this fish called "Tude" and she claimed it to taste sweet. But my cousin didn't know which restaurant my mom went so we tried another place, and my mom said it didn't taste the same as the one she tried previously. So up until now, I never tried the fish that tasted "sweet".
It's late already and all of us were exhausted after the long day and we went back to hotel for rest.
