Durian... Duren... Durian....

Have you ever tasted the king of fruits known as Durian?
I've been in love with it since I was a kid, thank God I'm part of the fortunate people who could stand the smell of this heavenly fruit. Many foreigners would scream "what in bloody hell is that smell?!?!", well if you really can't stand the smell to eat it... you're losing a lot :D
The taste of a good durian is sweet, the texture is sometimes a bit harder on the outside than the inside (like the top of lasagna), and once you bite it, the taste of sweet butter will surround your mouth.... arrrggghhhh I'm longing again for it now.

In Jakarta there are 2 main types of durian : 1st is the local with it's variety, 2nd is the thai durian or known as monthong durian. Local durian is smaller than the ones from thai, the seed is bigger and meat of the fruit is thinner but the aroma is much stronger than the ones from thailand and besides that it's much cheaper, a quite small durian if in season will cost Rp 5000 (US$ 0.50) each, but for a bit better one will cost Rp 15.000 (US$ 1.50) for 2.
For beginner who wants to taste this delicious fruit for a first time,

I recommend the thai durian, as it has less aroma and the thickness of the meat is really thick, once I got around 2cm from the 1 side to the seed. But here in Jakarta this durian would cost more maybe around Rp 50.000 (US$ 5) and up for 1 fruit, so sometimes the fruit store opened the fruit already and sell it part by part.

Yesterday I had a good lesson, the night before I ate spicy food and had 1 little durian as a desert. Yes... 1 whole fruit not just 1 seed, but it's just a small fruit on my defense. And in the morning.... I had to pay the price, had a stomachache and said hello a bit too many times to my toilet :P.
So Lesson to be remembered is : "Never mix too spicy food and durian"
